ACADEMY

Agility, coordination and cardiovascular fitness are just a few health benefits that without a doubt positively affect the academic performance of our students.

ARTS

Visual communication is a major cornerstone of human development. It transcends language barriers and can efficiently and effectually explain complex problems and ideas. It is also a source of self-expression and is an empowering skillset for a child to have.

Not all visual communication is art-based; careers in architecture, digital, video, industrial design and many other fields all stem from an interest in visual arts.

MUSIC

Playing music encourages communication between the creative and the logical part of the brain. Learning to play a musical instrument can enhance verbal memory, spatial reasoning and literacy skills.

At Discovery we learn music by playing the ukulele and bongos to start with. Our dynamic music program caters for a variety of musical abilities for students in Prep to Year 12.

  1. Compulsory Music classes 2 lessons per week in Prep to Year 8.

  2. Elective Music classes 4 lessons per week in Year 9 and 10.

  3. Band & String Ensemble which rehearses for one hour each per week.

  4. Instrumental Music Lessons focussed instrumental lesson for 30 minutes per week.

  5. Primary Choir weekly lunchtime rehearsals.

DRAMA

“Drama is life with all the dull bits cut.” - Alfred Hitchcock

The dramatic arts are fundamental in developing confident communicators and flexible thinkers. Drama at its core allows individuals to step outside of themselves and step into another’s shoes, promoting empathy, imagination, and creative collaboration; all of which are timeless and completely necessary skills for today’s ever changing world.

At Discovery Christian College, we pursue excellence in our yearly productions, casting students from Years 5-12 and utilising the skill set of artists and stage crew. Drama is developed in our secondary school rotations and narrowing into a more specialised subject in Years 9 and 10. In classroom Drama, we love to create and perform for the other year levels in the school, giving our students authentic performance experiences.
